A thread on which to lol

at the Tories' short-lived "in't England Britain brilliant?!" poster

I kinda think Dalek might have made it, there are no women in it for a start and it seems to have Rishi weirdly prominent in the middle like he is the most important thing in Britain

"looks like an 8-yo made it for a skool project"

very much has that vibe, doesn't it?

it feels like their whole social media department is being run by an enthusiastically useless intern.

it's not even a good slogan "we're second best!"

what's the claim based on anyway? it's not just some made up tory fantasy is it? it must be based on one of these brand strength reports right?

@Sumo - based on a brand consultancy's survey of "soft power" IIRC.

Because fighter jets and container ships (importing Chinese consumer goods) are soft power, of course.

American fighter jets and the Eurofighter.  Also a Canadian owned car, a compromised media organisation whose destruction is one of the Tories' primary goals, a dying tax-dodging billionaire aristocrat, a shipping container demonstrating that we import everything and produce nothing and at the centre of it all, a pathetic, nasty little twerp who will be living in California on his wife's stolen billions before the year is out.

It is a pretty good summary of Britain tbf to them.

ah yes, threeps, but you omitted to mention the mighty English men's football team that reached the QFs of the last world cup. you've got no answer to that, have you?

if that poster is not a spoof they are going to regret it

Fuzzy old king got cancer

Football team doesn't win

Red Arrows riddled with controversy around safety, governance, bullying, deaths in service

We flew an F35-B off the deck of HMS Queen Elisabeth into the sea because someone forgot to remove the protective enging blank from the intake duct

The container ships shown are probably built in S Korea or Norway and carry containers from China.

Canadian investor Lawrence Stroll bought 25% of Aston Martin from Ford. Aston has not been an English owned brand since over two decades ago when it was on its balls. Stroll is the chairman of Aston Martin, and Tobias Moers of Mercedes-AMG is the CEO.

The Eurofighter Typhoon is a joint .. oh you know

ah yes, threeps, but you omitted to mention the mighty English men's football team that reached the QFs of the last world cup. you've got no answer to that, have you?

they didn't even think to include the Lionesses, who actually won the euros.  Pathetic.

Is this the fabled British soft power projected through, for example, the BBC, the World Service, our membership of multilateral bodies, support for free trade and customs free arrangements and respect for the rule of law? All of which the Tories have spent 14 years undermining?

Alas it seems not.

I have been trying to understand some more of the detail here.  It's a farkin disgrace but a good metaphor for how out of touch these jokers are.

It was adapted last Thursday from an article in the Express which cited something called the Brand Finance's 2024 Global Soft Power Index, in which the UK is stated to be in second place behind the US.

How better to demonstrate soft power than with a pair of fighter jets.

And all the other points I've made above.

I missed one out though. The guy with the camera is Christopher Nolan.  I thought he had moved to the US.

Also, the ship, I see, is the MSC Zoe.  Built in South Korea,  as I guessed, but sails under the flag of Panama, and is owned by a Swiss-based company founded in Italy.

The Zoe managed to lose a load of containers in the North Sea in 2019 some of which included plastic bulk tanks of hydrogen peroxide.

Well done, you absolute pricks.

It is genuine apparently. Claim is based on ‘brand finance’s global soft power index’ whoever they are. Pulled because of use of the king in political advetising

Fwiw I'm not sure spilling hydrogen peroxide into the sea is a massive deal. Yes it would cause some local damage but it breaks down into water fairly rapidly. It's not like oil.

They didnt spill it. They let go of container carrying hundreds of plastic drums of it, which sank. There is a steel and plastic hydrogen peroxide reef in the north sea waiting to rust and degrade.

I am surprised more is not being made of this self inflicted cock laceration.
It is absolutely what is wrong with the thinking ability, the stupid narrow minded barrel-scraping fvckwittery, the lack of understanding of what a dire state our country and economy are in, and actually what our proud assets are, how our nation is in fact made up not how some idiot thinks it is.
If this is the work of anyone of any experience then they are incompetent. If it is the unalloyed outpourings of a babytory then who let them drive?
They need to go, in absolute disgrace. On Every Score. What they stand for and what they fail to stand for.

I have passed through LOL into Election Now then on to Civil Disobedience Now and am approaching Revolution. I may take a Met Officer hostage and play it out over tiktok.

The fu ck is ‘soft power’ anyway ? What you talk about when you cannot offer it in hard form.

it's where you make heavy industry illegal and turn your 80% of your higher education sector into a visa mill so you can brag about how virtuous you are at international conferences to developing countries who don't give a shit

Oh actually I think the issue with HMS QE and PoW was that they had too large a propeller shaft dimension for our manufacturers to deliver so they ended up welding sections together and the weld joints have rusted due to poor seals and seawater ingress.

Ffs

Actually this poster is a galvanising event for me.  It’s more than a LoL at their moronicity. It should be used to strangle them. We cannot just idly say arent they all shit. That way only 30% of the electorate bother to engage and you get more Parliaments of Fools. I may do one of those .gov petitions and get a no confidence debate and election kicked off. Would you sign it and forward it?
