Assistant Legal Counsel / Senior Paralegal (6-12 month fixed term contract - maternity cover)

What is the role?

We are currently looking for a highly-motivated assistant legal counsel to support the legal team in delivery of commercial legal services to cover a period of maternity. You will work under the supervision and support of the Group Legal Director and Legal and Commercial Counsel to support AKT II, but also other Group companies within the Tyréns UK Holding Group as required.   

Although AKT II is always willing to consider a wide range of candidates for its roles, as a guide the successful candidate is likely to have the following experience level and skills:

  • Drafting and negotiating Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure contracts, consultant appointments which includes industry standards such as ACE, NEC3 and FIDIC, sub-consultant appointments, warranties/third party rights, novation agreements and other construction documentation.
  • Advising on general commercial contracts across the business.
  • Managing AKT II’s contractual precedents and processes.
  • Monitoring for and advising the business on new and proposed UK legislation, regulation and guidance.
  • Legal administration inclusive of ensuring audit trails of key contractual correspondence is maintained through hard/soft copy files.
  • Ad-hoc support across the AKT II marketing function in responding to PQQs and RFPs.
  • Getting involved in wider commercial issues where the business requires it.
  • Supporting the Company Secretary with providing advice on company secretarial and corporate governance matters within the AKT II Group.

 

 

Skills:

  • Sound legal & commercial experience.
  • Capable of working independently but with the confidence to identify areas where training, supervision or personal development is required.
  • Positive and collaborative outlook with ability to look through problems / challenges to solutions.
  • Ability to deal with complexity and ambiguity in a dynamic working environment.
  • Flexibility is required in order to respond to the workloads imposed by client requirements.
  • Good organisational qualities and an ability to work on numerous tasks concurrently.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • A willingness to operate out of his or her comfort zone and a willingness to play a proactive role in developing AKT II’s legal function.
  • Confidence in dealing with senior people in organisations and be very personable, with a positive attitude.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Law or Legal Practice Course Qualification/Equivalent.
  • 1 to 3 years PQE (aptitude and personality culture-fit will be given significantly greater weight over PQE in assessment) as a lawyer, legal executive or senior paralegal or equivalent with commercial contracts experience, preferably in the construction consultancy industry.

 

Experience

  • Experience of advising on/negotiating/drafting/managing commercial contracts (ideally in the professional services sector).
  • In-house experience desirable, but not essential.
  • The ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate their experience, competency and flexibility to meet the demands of the role.
