I'd be interested but not sure if I ROF enough to merit entry - more (very) longtime lurker than poster but I do sometimes post esp on book threads. Exited the last book club (mainly mums at same school as my kid) as found the books being chosen samey and of fairly questionable quality but don't think that would be a risk with ROF folks somehow.
Lorem - if rof chats on this are any guide, we are always looking for diverse alternatives. Not as diverse as playboy or Mills & Boon but never say never.
RoF rules apply. No outing. Ideally you should be willing to be on screen, otherwise you’re just a disembodied voice... You can change your Zoom name to your RoF one, of course…
This should be fun. I've wondered what you all look like ha ha!! I will have to create a nonny email. So what are the no outing rules if we see someone we know on screen?
1. Ok, please suggest one (ONE!!) fiction book to be shortlisted.
2. It must be published post 2010 and still be in print or able to be downloaded onto a Kindle/similar.
3. Fiction only, no autobiographical books. Pretty much any genre of fiction allowed but not erotic. Sorry kids, this is fwap free zone. Do that on your own time.
4. Shortlist nominations close on 24 September at 17:00 GMT and I will announce the shortlist the following week. Please include your nonnymail in your book nomination post so i can send you the Zoom link later. If you want to join in but don’t have any books to suggest, then please email me at [email protected] so i have your nonny.
I will break suggestions down into a shortlist. If we get too many suggestions in one genre for example, i will draw one out of a hat to be shortlisted.
Hi Dusty, I don't think we have met on "social media" as I am not on anything other than WhatsApp (does that count)? I do have a FB account but never use it. Have you always been Stardust? Anyway we shall soon find out ha ha!
Jack is that your nomination, then? Can i please have your nonny mail, if so? If you don’t have one, just email mine directly, so i can send the Zoom link when we get to that point.
UPDATE: We have six nominations so far. Nominations close a week on Friday.
Criteria as follows (saves you scrolling through!)
1. Please suggest one (ONE!!) fiction book to be shortlisted.
2. It must be published post 2010 and still be in print or able to be downloaded onto a Kindle/similar.
3. Fiction only, no autobiographical books. Pretty much any genre of fiction allowed but not erotic. Sorry kids, this is fwap free zone. Do that on your own time.

You’ll have about six weeks to read the book, so don’t feel like you’re up against it if you agree to sign up. Going to suggest week ending 19 November for the first one. Do people want Thursdays? Think that might be a good weekday evening…

The film was post-2010 fwiw, fairly sure I read it on a summer holiday some time in the mid- to late noughties.

Or English Monsters (James Scudamore) - have heard good things and it’s a topic that should fascinate/pander to ROF prejudices nicely

I read Death in Venice 25 years ago.
Old man perving over teenage boy in decadent Venice, rife with images of corruption and decay.
There, saved everyone the bother. fooking deviant, Thomas Mann.

Dusty, I've read the first five chapters of Eight Detectives by Alex Pavesi, and have to withdraw my nomination.
The formulaic character development mimics Agatha Christie in its simplicity, and the 'detective' logic would entertain nerdy teenagers.
But a book club surely needs to discuss a work that shines a perspective on the complexity, angst and delight of the human condition.
Oh wait! This is ROF
