‘Unlike the convictions of other celebrities like comedian Bill Cosby and film producer Harvey Weinstein, most of the victims who helped convict Kelly were black.‘
A white British BBC executive is currently contemplating a BBC drama on R Kelly. He (and it will be a he) is thinking what a good fact it is that "most of the victims who helped convict Kelly were black" as that will help the BBC meet its tick box for minority ethnic representation in BBC dramas. Phone call to Noel Clarke's agent tomorrow re the R Kelly role.
Crypto, muttley, check out the guardian coverage. If you google r Kelly it should be in the news headline bar thing. Cranked the race angle up to 11 at the expense of the actual abuse.
He had loads of collaborations over the years, even after the initial allegations surfaced. And was sampled for a Drake track as recently as last year I think.
Very much like Savile / Polanski etc... the amount of people who must have known about this but turned a blind eye because he had celebrity status and they didn't want to rock the boat...
Shows how toxic showbiz is. Ideal for predators. A conspiracy of silence.
Selling platinum discs is more important than whether young, talented artists are listened to at the initial outcry, if they can do so at all (usually not, it seems).
To paraphrase that guy in League of Gentlemen (formerly of Créme Brulée), it's a s*** business you're young and vulnerable. Worse if BME and female.
A conspiracy of silence, in an industry where a small number of people at the top wield huge power over the career progression of those who are new to the game.

It’s been absolutely dreadful. Entirely portrayed through a lens of race.

Can we get Steve Coogan to play R Kelly and Michael Sheen and David Tennant to play all the victims?

should this be an international story? It's not exactly surprising that the US has its share of abusive criminal celebrities

Of course it's an international story. What- do you want local news for local people. All we have is no fooking petrol and cabbages rotting in fields.

My favourite line in the reporting, "it is thought that it is now unlikely Kelly will be able to revive his pop career".
I went to an R Kelly show when I was 14, my dad let me go with just my friends because he thought it was an Irish band...true story.

**exactly what he was thinking...
The supporting act was Notorious BIG and Puff Daddy. It was a very wholesome evening with entertainment from the Ould Country.

Idris Elba would be first call for the lead in a British R Kelly biopic, surely.
