......I imagine most people would have just shuffled their seat to the side out of the porthole's view, not stayed where they were, not called the bridge and told them to steer a bit to the right to move the window to get the sun out of his face
No many a racer will suggest to the tactician that he change his plan on a cold day so that we can sit on the sunny side instead of freezing in the shade.
Like Sailo sed, It (or something like it) happens all the time. I have had to alter course because the radar aerial was casting a shadow over the officers who were sunbathing at lunchtime innumerable times.
as soon as a saw zombie and bagel, I immediately thought - zombies are pallid and baddies, like vampires. Vampires hate the sun. Zombies are likely to rot more in the sun, so also not keen - but a bagel is round, right? Like a porthole. And then I knew what was coming next. It was obvious. Just like it was to Sailo. Obvious.

no, u spectacularly braindead tool, the point (2 completely kill this thread) is that a guy took a seat in a spot with a v small amount of sunlight shining inconveniently, and rather than simply move very slightly 2 another readily available, exactly equal place, 2 get out of the sun, he got a massive ship 2 adjust course
that is not the same as asking 2 remove shade 2 better get sunshine. it might be kind of similar if there was a spot immediately next 2 where u were lying which was in the sun and the boat pp refers 2 was similarly massive, but on the facts that’s just not the case
this is, in fact, contrary 2 ur braindeadness, not really a story about sunlight. ffs even plants and animals know about moving from or into the shade. it’s a story about being too idle 2 shift sitting ten inches.
How do you know there was another available seat? Also all navies have archaic rules on who can sit where so in fact there may not have been another option.
It is in fact a story about abusing your position to achieve a better outcome for yourself but sorry you can't see that.
yep but i can’t help feeling i was forced into it by sails being a total w**ksock and doubling down on missing the point (despite it being in the first fooking line of the photo and me pointing out 2 him) then claiming it was a slightly different point and suggesting i’d missed that point when that was part of the very point i was making. i think the guy is actually an idiot. or hanners. tho ofc they r the same thing
Am not sure it is fair to call Sails a w**ksock when he's generously taken so much time out of muttering his "Quantas Never Crashed" mantra to do a level 5 chambo on this thread
It was funny. It wasn't high art, or classic literature, it was just a bit silly and a bit funny. Honestly, some of you lot... I just hope that you use RoF as an outlet for this side of you that you otherwise keep under wraps, cos if not, living / working with, even just being around you for long periods of time must be akin to water torture, or death by a thousand cuts.

Sailo you should go straight to reddit and put your story there. If anything it's better told than the one Sumo posted.

It's a good story but as a sailor I knew what was coming in the first line of the second paragraph.

I think pretty much everyone can see that coming dinghy captain or not

(A) I don't think this happened.
(B) whether it happened or not I don't find it very funny
(C) even the mild humour potentially available has been stamped out by the turgid over long prose

Oracle it's exactly the same point. Changing course to mitigate the effects of the sun.

To be fair to Jelly it also crossed my mind it could be using the phone to call an orderly to walk over to the porthole and lower the shade on it.

Sails quite right to point out the sailing analogy
I well recall a cow wife, coming down late to breakfast, screaming at her husband because the only place left for her to sit faced the sun
" Why do you always do this? Typical of you "
Followed by a 10 minute rant about his general I adequacies, to the amusement of everyone present
