A 51-year old Frenchman has been ordered to pay his ex-wife damages totalling £8,500 after failing to keep up with her sexual demands during their marriage.
Jean-Louis B. (his identity presumably censored on grounds of national security) was sued by his estranged wife, MMe B, on the grounds that she hadn't been getting nearly enough rumpy. And this week a judge in Aix-en-Provence ruled that she was to be paid €10,000 for "lack of sex over 21 years of marriage".
The case was brought under article 215 of the civil code, which states that couples must share a "communal life" after marriage. Despite the frigid Frenchman's complaints of "tiredness and health problems", the judge ruled that a "sexual relationship between husband and wife is the expression of affection they have for each other, and in this case it was absent".
