A lawyer who left Hill Dickinson to become a Labour MP has joined the shadow cabinet after a string of resignations.
Rebecca Long-Bailey began her legal career at Pinsent Masons before moving to ill-fated Halliwells in 2003. Three years before it collapsed in 2007, she moved to rival Manchester firm Hill Dickinson, where she specialised in NHS contracts. But in 2014, when she left the firm after being selected to replace Hazel Blears as Salford and Eccles MP, she played down the fact that she was a lawyer. Instead she emphasised that her dad was a docker, and told voters, "Over the years I have held many jobs; working in shops, call centres and a furniture factory".
Long-Bailey was one of 36 Labour MPS who nominated Jeremy Corbyn as a candidate in the party's 2015 leadership election. This week, with more than 20 of his cabinet resigning, the under-siege idealist reached into his rapidly-emptying bag of loyal MPs and appointed the 36-year-old as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, the shadow Chancellor's deputy. Previous occupants of the position include Gordon Brown, Margaret Beckett, Harriet Harman, Alistair Darling and George Osborne.
Neither Long-Bailey nor a spokeswoman for Hill Dickinson were prepared to predict when she would quit. Though in a hint that she's keeping her options open, her LinkedIn profile currently states that she still works at the firm. A spokesman for Pinsent Masons said, "Rebecca worked for us for a period and as such is no stranger to complex assignments. We wish her all the best in her new role".

I've also worked in a variety of shop jobs, as a waitress, in bar work and care work etc. before qualifying. It is how some of us put ourselves through university!
