Would you object if your local water company proposed building one near you? I'm assuming for these purposes that you aren't one of the handful of people whose house would be flooded.
Personally no and I used to daydream about the water board flooding the valley below my house so that I could negotiate being able to launch a little sailing dinghy straight from my garden. There are a couple of reservoirs in the surrounding area and given the topography they just look like lakes and provide good outdoor activites. Would be different if they wanted to build one of those ones that is basically just a half buried big metal tank but they can be well hidden.

Was reading this morning about the fight Thames Water is having to try and building new storage capacity out in Oxfordshire because all the locals are objecting. I assume they are the same people who will complain about a hosepipe ban in the summer after a wet winter where we didn't bother catching more rain before it flowed away.

If it made my property lakefront I'd be well up for that. Unlikely though as I live in the city so would annoy a lot of neighbours in the process.

Are you sure you weren't watching The Vicar Of Dibley?

I've just checked the location of the proposal - looks like it would almost back on to the big house owned by TV/Radio presenter 'Whispering' Bob Harris.
Wonder if he's a nimby?

I'll soon all be water under the bridge anyway.

Depends on a lot of factors. I actually spent my very early years (too early to remember) living right next to a reservoir in a water board tied cottage. My mother still talks about how bad the swarms of midges were at certain times of the year.
