‘The Health Police’

Every MP who votes for this should hang their heads in shame. It reeks of fascism.

Of course, only the loony Right will oppose it, as Parliament is completely devoid of liberals.

18-24s
Support 43% Oppose 28%

65+
Support 70% Oppose 15%

No surprise that the young oppose it, as they are:

a) more likely to be genuine liberals; and
b) closer to those who will be affected

If smoking is that bad then ban it for everyone.

That will be next.

And then alcohol.

I'd be amazed if we didn't have a serious prohibition movement within my lifetime.

As for all the folk thinking that soft drugs might be legalised one day, they must be smoking something good.

If we discovered tobacco now it would clearly be Class C at least.  It’s been allowed for years because people have done it for hundreds of years and it raises a load of tax but as the smoking rate has dropped so has the tax take.

I’m not at all surprised vaping is bad as I never figured that directly inhaling steam and concentrated nicotine would be great for your lungs.

Vaping is a real time scandal before our eyes. Watch the industry sidestep regulation, like the online gambling robber barons. Feudal Britain hobbles its progress time and again.

A rare what cookie said. The tobacco industry pulled a blinder with vaping given how unregulated and commonplace it has become. I just don’t get the point of it. At least smoking looks vaguely cool.

I’d have been more supportive of this ban if there was a sunset clause for say 25 year olds. Not many people start smoking at that age so the difference in outcomes is likely minimal.

Probably only the only decent measure introduced under sunak.

No surprise to see right wing radicals like dux and laz allying themselves with truss on this.

And a rare what cookie says.  This should be extended to vaping.

Neither Laz nor I are remotely "right wing", and if believing that lighting up a ciggie shouldn't be a criminal offence is "radical" it shows what a bizarre society we've become.

No doubt when the same legislation is applied to booze, as it inevitably will be, RoF's boomers will happily quaff away on their cases of Chateau Lafite, safe in the knowledge that youngsters will never get their hands on it.
