Letter to the Telegraph heh

SIR -

I well remember the eggs thrown at Mrs Thatcher’s car in Wales in 1984 (Letters, May 17). I was with her.

It had been a fraught day. An early phone call from the PM had deprived me of breakfast. The flight to Wales had been turbulent. And the post-speech reception, where there would have been “eats”, was cancelled on security grounds. It was a hot July day.

As we drove back to the airport, eggs were thrown at her, landing on the car, where they fried and sizzled. I had to be forcibly held back from scraping the eggs off the car and eating them.
