The offence on the website ..

Reduces me to tears sometimes and so goodnight and goodbye all.  Xx

It does seem to be in a particularly bad state at the moment oldgrumpy: full of bile. I've broadly given it a miss for the last week or so, and it's noticeable that one or two other regulars seem to be doing so too.

Can't help thinking it coincides with the thumbsdown feature, which seems completely meaningless if there's no commentary to accompany it.

If you dont like what someone says, at least have the character to put your name to it with a reason. Surely the thumbs down merchant/s must have that much moral fibre?

Or as I suggested in the host's post on it, just reveal the names of those who get off on living in the shadows next to the thumbs down, and for good measure do it retrospectively. That functionality button is there Jamie.

I've given you a thumbs up Ego, cos at least you put your money where your mouth is, which on an anonymous board aint very much at all tbh but an improvement on many.

Personally I dont give a flying fook whether I get thumbs ups or downs.

I've enjoyed this board. It can be a very good laff, it can be a decent shed, it can host decent debates, and has been a welcome diversion from life's must do things, but if the increasingly dark atmosphere causes people to think what's the point, well it begs the question 'what is the point?'.

chiz sun

it reduces me to tears but for the opposite reason

most of us are decent earning professionals (I assume) ... how tf can the comments of some random on the internet affect you so much.  I don't get it.  "increasingly dark atmosphere" - I've been here since around 2000 and hear this constantly..."oh it's not what it was" etc.  It's what it always was.  If you don't like it or you've evolved personally and it's not for you anymore, try mumsnet (which is far more dark Iand catty 'm told) or similar.

Aaah you have proprietary rights. I'm sorry I didn't realise.

I suspect I'm as thick skinned as you Ego, I just don't get off on the same thing I guess. I like positives, not negatives.

Being a spectator to a good mix of the two is fine, that reflects life pretty accurately, but there's been a visible tilt, that's all.

I've given you another thumbs up btw, on top of the one you gave yourself.

PS just imagine what these people would be up to if they weren’t up at 5am downvoting every comment on rof from the previous day

It’s a bit like basket weaving or whatever, if it’s distracting them from making nail bombs or sending death threats to prominent scientists it’s a price worth paying

You may have a point FF.

Marshall, you take a fair bit of stick, and always in very good humour and if you've given some stick, that's fair dinkums. It's plainly water off a duck's back to you. You dont strike me as a pussy.

I'm thinking of a couple of posts from yesterday after I looked back in after a week or so broadly absent.

I fly no flag for Oyster Bay, and she certainly flies none for me. Our last exchange would have left viewers in no doubt. She posted about her late mother, and was thumbs downed in number. It was a stain on this place. What mentality gets off on that?  Posting about a young woman with 3 kids dealing with cancer, whatever fooking entitlement she may enjoy in life seemed OTT. There have been plenty other instances, and they are increasing.

I posted a fair bit about my late father and doing so was cathartic. I really appreciated the feedback. Sometimes I'm on here after a few drinks in the evening and am perfectly lairy, though hopefully not overly offensive.

It feels a bit like having a decent local pub that is all of a sudden taken over by a drug gang.

I like it here, the balance of banter has been broadly healthy. I spent years enjoying stand up comedy of all sorts, without batting an eyelid, because the good would offset the not so.

It would be a shame if this place just became a constant bear-pit. That's all.
