What would an Israeli/iranian war look like?

They don’t have a border.

Presumably hizbullah would attack from north, Israel from south. Chuck missiles as each other.

Can’t see Arabs getting directly involved. Yanks launching stuff from the gulf.

Israel clearly won't use nuclear weapons so that is largely irrelevant. Neither side has any real ability to project force apart from air power. I doubt Hezbollah has any interest at this point in a mass suicide mission so I can't see them directly attacking the north of Israel on the ground though they would surely be part of a missile attack.

I think we would see a large scale air assault by Iran, trying to overwhelm Iron Dome (although with so much allied kit in the region query if they even could). The loony toons in Iraq and Syria might have some appetite for effectively a mass suicide mission over the Syrian border into Israel.

Most likely you then have a combination of Israeli and US airpower (with some token support from the UK) taking out most of the Iranian missile capability and whatever other military kit they can find relatively quickly.  It's not a very attractive proposition for Iran.

it's an unlikely war.  There's little to no chance that Iraq will allow them cross their territory, Syria is already full of half the worlds armies fighting each other and Iran can't compete with Israel in the air.

The only scenario that would work is drawing America into a greater conflict.  Then, Iraq will team up with their neighbour.

Jordan will side with Israel and Egypt will stay out of it.

there are only 4 armies in the world with expeditionary capability (can invade and support an invasion that is not next door). That's US, UK, France and Russia (though China is working on it quite dilligently).

Iran's military doctrine is militas and terror cells basically so rockets and missile lobbed at israel, maybe something that looks a bit like commando raids and for israel it would probably be missiles and airstrikes, quite possibly at iranian targets outside of iran.

neither side has much of a navy outside of coastal protection though Iran has the houthis who can muck about in the red sea so unlikey to be much blockading of trade

I guess it would be a fairly boring non event for most spectators

Israel and US chucking missiles at a poorly defended Iran

Naval blockade of Iran and control of the airspace by NATO

No need for ground troops

Iran unable to successfully fire anything back

Iranian public, particularly the young ones, quite against a war and don't have the same violent anti-Semitism of their leaders

Russia and china unable or unwilling to get involved on Iran's side

China might use it to take a pop at Taiwan I guess, but that's remarkably unlikely and misguided

I do love this idea that chucking missiles at a country will make it less bellicose.

Cos it's worked so well in Israel, Palestine, Yemen, Ukraine.

An Iran/Israel war will be a massive cripple-fight of brinkmanship as each side does something then demands everybody else do their dirty work for them.

I hope UN can charge overtime...

Tbf at this stage, as long as Israel avoids sending ground troops in in response to 300 drones and missiles being sent at it, the world is winning

Maybe it should launch 599 in response? Use Iran's ratio of escalation

PP more like a fight between two whiny kids at school that is three parts crap punches to two parts "I'm telling on you"/"big Dave is going to get you" to one part stage-school tears.

Might see direct Iranian intervention in Yemen, with the threat of controlling access to the Red Sea.  That would scare a fair few people and might invite intervention by the West and/or Saudi.  Also closing of the Straits of Hormuz.  Iran's trump card was always a nuclear program and there's no evidence they have developed any, or have a delivery system likely to get it to Israel

One thing we can be sure of is that most of the people wji’d die would be innocent civilians just minding their own business.

Netanyahu and his cohort of war criminals need to be restrained and pdq.
