We think that watches, like mobiles, will become increasingly complicated in the future. They will be less about telling the time and more about measuring your heart rate, watching TV or communicating to other watch wearers. We know that most of that is already available, but it's generally bought by your mate who also really, really likes anime and blogging.

Whilst those stranger and more fanciful watches are a little way off, we should cling on to the manly watches currently available. One of our favourites is the MTM Watch range which is 9 different American watches with somewhat intimidating names like 'Predator', 'Warrior' and 'Stryker'.

They may sound like characters from a spoof Chuck Norris flick, but trust us they fit the watches perfectly as they are rugged and durable; something you would expect from watches made specifically for the armed forces until popular demand meant a general release usually priced between £300-500.

Jack got confused by the lack of a 24 hour setting

The watches themselves look good (especially in Titanium), keep time well and are extremely hard wearing for those looking to have a reliable watch whilst adventuring (or invading nations). We got our hands on a limited edition Blackhawk watch cast in Titanium, which comes with a dual torch function (blue for discreet lighting and orange for powerful blinding). Perhaps our favourite feature of the watches is that they can be charged at home by way of a funky adaptor that the watch sits on.

Each range is available in either silver or black and some are available in camouflage which is obviously handy for when you want to know the time but you don't want anyone else to know you know the time (unless you've made the silly mistake of not camouflaging your entire arm, in which case you'll just look like you've got a dirty watch).

These watches are worn by real and pretend police, army folk (featured in film and TV) and, the now retired, Jack Bauer. If they're good enough to keep track of his hectic 24 hour days, it's good enough for us.
