Linklaters' associates seem to be abandoning the London corporate department in droves.
Insiders tell RollOnFriday that the firm has been inundated with resignations this week - including many at managing associate level - leaving the corridors reverberating with, well, silence. To lose one associate may be considered unfortunate, but rumours of six resigning in a single day looks pretty careless. The firm denied this, but accepted that it had lost a number of staff over the last couple of weeks.
Departures are hardly unknown throughout the City, the market's picking up and more lateral opportunities are presenting themselves. So it could be that this will become an increasing problem for many large firms, as staff who've been beasted over the last year jump ship. Or it may be more acute at Linklaters, given that it's the only firm in the Magic Circle not to have increased its salary bands...
A spokeswoman for the firm said "we can confirm that a number of associates have resigned from the London corporate practice over the past couple of weeks. The departures are unrelated, with the associates deciding to pursue different opportunities both within the legal profession and outside the sector. We wish them well in their future careers."
