A new website has emerged which claims to assist desperate trainee contract hunters by turning their average applications into successful ones and offering them "relevant" work experience to spruce up their CVs.

TC Advisory Partners, which describes itself as an "Englsih partnership governed by the Partnership Act 1890", claimed to have been set up by "a group of city lawyers" with decades of "collective legal experience" at top firms under their belts (this part of the site has since been pulled down). The services it offers to struggling trainees include provision of model answers "guaranteed to improve your chances" of scooping a TC and work experience as "legal adviser" to business all under the "close supervision" of TC Advisory's crew of qualified lawyers.

Bizarrely the company operates entirely anonymously. There are no names, addresses or telephone numbers on the site. Even for the Application Hotline. And when RollOnFriday put it to the owner (through a generic email address on the site) that he had an obligation under the Business Names Act to list the partners on the website, he claimed he was operating as a sole trader. He immediately pulled down sections of the site. But Google TC Advisory's and its claim to be a partnership is still there.

The owner refused to provide a telephone number or speak to us, but reacted rather agitatedly to any suggestion that he was acting under a cloak of anonymity. He declined to confirm the identity of any of the experienced legal consultants working for the company and wouldn't put us in touch with any customers who had used his site's services.

TC Advisory is far from the only company to be offering these kinds of services to desperate wannabe trainees. Another website, Oxbridge Training Contracts, charges applicants thousands of pounds for interview prep and customised interview answers. Whether they add any value is a moot point. The head of grad rec at one major City firm told RollOnFriday that students should be wary of these businesses

Get in touch (anonymously, of course) if you've had any experience with these services.
