The man behind the getatrainingcontract.com website (GATC), which charges £380 to mailshot the CVs of desperate graduates out to law firms, has offered the service for free to one lucky reader.

The owner of the site called RollOnFriday after last week's article was published to complain that he was being unfairly criticised by readers for providing a legitimate service. He argued that to suggest that he was exploiting desperate graduates was "like saying that Tesco exploits hungry people". And the reason he didn't put any names on his site was that his consultants "work for other people and don't want everyone to know who they are".

Anyway, he said that he would offer one reader the chance to try the company's services for free. OK, fair dos. So if someone who has passed the LPC, and is seeking a training contract at a small, medium or high street firm wants to give them a try, then check out GATC's FAQs and if you are happy with it all then send your details to [email protected]. The first suitable applicant out of the hat will get passed on to GATC.

Of course this all assumes he's still in business. One reader wrote in to suggest that he was in breach of s.6 of the Employment Agencies Act 1973, which severely restricts charging people seeking employment. Basically it seems you can only get away with it if you're an agent for actors, musicians, sportspeople and the like. He told RollOnFriday that his company had been "registered with the Employment Agency", but wouldn't discuss this point any further.

The site's owner said that he had many positive testimonials, but declined to share them. However some RollOnFriday readers who claimed to have dealt with his company were less enthusiastic... Still, maybe they were unlucky. Send your details in, let us know how you get on and let's see.

*Please send in your name and phone number. You must have passed the LPC and be seeking a training contract, and by submitting your details you agree that if you are selected you will provide a summary of your experience of getatrainingcontract.com to RollOnFriday for publication.
