Three lawyers and one law student were among the top 50 contestants in the second season of the Australian MasterChef which aired earlier this week to an audience of over 1.69 million.

This year's budding chefs included two lawyers from Victorian and one from South Australia, according to a Lawyers Weekly report. There was also a law student from Queensland. It's not the first time that lawyers have traded pen and legal pad for apron and knives. Last year Minter Ellison partner John Poulsen was one of the contestants.

It's perhaps unsurprising that lawyers are so well represented in the show. For one thing they have more time on their hands thanks to the GFC. And for another, a reality TV kitchen is, of course, the perfect environment for lawyers - orders being shouted from all sides, and ridiculous deadlines resulting in half-baked product.
