RollOnFriday can exclusively reveal that DLA Phillips Fox is committed to its New Zealand offices and, despite rumours to the contrary, has no intention of closing them. What's more the firm has formally confirmed to RollOnFriday that it is considering a full merger with DLA Piper.

Gossip about a possible merger kicked off last summer when DLA Phillips Fox started ramping up its corporate and banking practices, and losing smaller groups (such as Media and Environment). Reports over the last few days on Firmspy and ALB suggested that the firm might close its New Zealand offices in readiness for the tie-up.

However DLA FP's Kiwi staff can put away their brown trousers. RollOnFriday can confirm that while a merger really is on the cards, the New Zealand offices will be spared. A spokeswoman for DLA Phillips Fox said that the firms "already work very closely together and financial integration is an option the two firms are investigating, however, it is not a certainty and no timetable has been set." She added that contrary to online speculation, "DLA Phillips Fox has had offices in New Zealand since 1992 – and will continue to have offices there - we have no intention of getting rid of them".
