There was news from Asia this week of the battle for domination between English and Aussie firms. Allens Arthur Robinson is ramping up its Singapore office, while Allen & Overy has announced an Indonesian tie up. And there are also whispers of Ashurst starting to kick tyres down under.

Allens has had offices in Singapore for over 25 years, and four additional partners are now being added to the ranks. The move cements the Singapore office as the firm's Asian hub. Meanwhile Allen & Overy has ventured south into Indonesia, through a tie up with Daniel Ginting Law Firm. And with recent reports of over 60% of A&O's profit being generated offshore these days, it's a safe bet that this won't be the last new office that RollOnFriday writes about.

Finally, if news reports are to be believed, Ashurst is the latest London firm thinking about taking over some Australian real estate, although its not clear whether that will be through a merger or by starting an office in its own right.

Allens, Allen & Overy, Ashurst. That's the A's covered. Next week, Bakers, Blakes and Baker Botts.
