According to the annual 100 Best Companies to Work For survey by The Sunday Times, Mishcon de Reya beats all other law firms by quite some distance.
The survey, which was published last week, works out its ratings based on staff responses to various questions, which aim to establish levels of "employee engagement". And Mishcons has emerged as the top law firm, coming in at a very respectable 28th place. Marks were given for the firm's work-life balance, teamwork and its charitable doings.
Other law firms acquitted themselves less well, however. There were no magic circle representatives - which probably isn't too surprising given the feedback from RollOnFriday's Firm of the Year survey about non-existent work/life balances and the general dearth of partnership prospects. In fact only four other firms made it into the top 100: Lewis Silkin (43), new entry Baker & MacKenzie (59), Brabners Chaffe Street (81) and the sole representative of the top 50 UK firms by revenue, Mills & Reeve (90).
Mishcons' victory has finally brought to an end the perplexing reign of Pannone, which managed to top the survey for the previous seven years (prompting sinister rumours of cake-based staff bribes and payments to Best Companies for consultancy services). Last year it came in at 18th, but this year didn't place at all. When asked about the firm's failure to chart, a spokeswoman said that Pannone had not even entered, adding that they had done it for years and "couldn't be bothered".
Luckily for Mishcons, it considered the survey was worth the effort and it's clearly delighted with the results. Managing Partner Kevin Gold said "I am incredibly proud...and want to thank all of our people for making Mishcon de Reya such a great place to work."
