A new marketing officer at Hogan Lovells is rumoured to be being paid the thick end of $1million a year.

Jolene Overbeck has triumphed over the curse of being named after a Dolly Parton song and a ladies bleaching product to forge a long career in various US law firms. Over the years she's worked at Orrick, Shearman & Sterling, Latham & Watkins and most recently, err, DLA Piper.

During her tenure at DLA Piper the firm appeared to lurch from disaster to disaster, booting out swathes of staff on statutory minimum redundancy pay with very bad grace, and widely being regarded as one of the World's Shite-est Law Firms™. Communications did not seem its strong point. So eyebrows were raised when Jolene popped up at Hogan Lovells as US chief marketing officer. And despite not being a global role, it still commands an eye-watering salary.

Overbeck said that the $1million figure was incorrect, but told American Lawyer that "I would just say I am regarded to be at the top of the field. I am compensated at that level, and I deliver at that level."  Well she seems to have got the hang of her own PR.
