In a bold recruitment drive, Leeds law firm Blacks Solicitors has hired controversial ex-footballer, pundit and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Robbie Savage.

The bottle blond star appears on the firm's website as a 'Sports Ambassador' along with other retired athletes like ex-Sheffield United player Brian Deane and Scottish winger John Hendrie. However, Savage is the most puzzling pick for a law firm, having been infamous for fouling (89 yellow cards, then a record) and diving. When someone kicked the ball in his face (which happened surprisingly often) fans of both teams cheered.

Savage wasn't the only player who fancied himself

Savage's duties are understood not to include fee-earning work, although he has had experience with the law. In a 2002 incident known as 'Poogate' Savage was fined £10,000 fine for voiding his bowels in the referee's private toilet, which he appealed and lost.

RollOnFriday called Savage on his direct line, but he was out. His secretary said the ambassador, who once called the people of Leeds "mindless idiots" after they pelted him with hot dogs, "doesn't come in on a regular basis".

At least Brian Deane is relevant for trivia quizzes as the first player to score a goal in the Premier League.
