Today we want to harp on about our favourite indie coffee seller - Kaffeine.

This past week we've been having a major debate as to what's better; London or the countryside. Obviously we're big supporters of London, not least because it doesn't smell of manure and London Underground for Kent doesn't quite work.

The countrysiders would argue that London has simply become a breeding ground of oligarchic living, where your choices are limited because every where you look there is a chain of some sort. They're not entirely wrong; within a short five mile radius of little Kaffeine there are 162 Starbucks. Apparently, that's not a good thing with mass production turning us all into clone drones...

However, London is all about hope and in Kaffeine we have placed a lot. An independent effort from a Kiwi-Aussie partnership (a breakthrough in itself), Kaffeine has been keeping Londoners awake for the last four years with brilliant coffee coupled with fantastic food

Bond Covenants made fun with a double espresso

The drinks are really addictive with regulars queuing out the door for their artistic fern-topped coffees. We had ourselves a tasty hot chocolate which we wholeheartedly recommend. The pastries on offer are never a let down either with excellent custard tarts and superb brownies on offer when we attended last.

The menu itself changes on a weekly basis and is outlined and explained enthusiastically on their blogs for their loyal fans. They do simple and healthy breakfasts, including stuff like porridge and muesli, along with more hangover friendly posh bacon and eggs and naughty ham and cheese croissants.

For lunch, you're able to treat yourself from their selection of a soup specials, tarts, salads and the more manly focaccias and baguettes. Definitely worth a go if you fancy a change from Starbucking around London.

So, Kaffeine is a finger in the eye of anti-Londoners. Where else can you get immigrant cafes fighting back against the 'Man'? Surprisingly, London is all about the little guy and, with Kaffeine in hand, he's well equipped to take on the farmers.
