Two men have been jailed for triggering a police siege when they broke into a cafe to steal a slice of quiche.

Dean Thompson and Barry Kirsopp burgled Cafe@Marshalls in Berwick-Upon-Tweed on 11 August because they were high and "fancied a piece of quiche."

    Try to resist its call

A stand-off ensued when 15 police cars and 30 officers armed with tasers arrived at the scene, the Indie reports. Thompson and Kirsopp, who would have been drilled with thousands of bullets in the US, instead managed to hold off the cops with a kitchen knife and a broomstick for six hours, hopefully in shifts so both of them got a chance to eat some quiche.

In the morning the pair, happy in the knowledge that their crime would cheer a beleaguered nation, allowed themselves to be volted into submission. They have now been jailed for burglary and affray, and will spend two years as the kings of prison.
