On 11 and 13 January 2017 articles headed “Exclusive: Mystery man who unleashed "torrent of abuse" on commuter looks astonishingly like Linklaters lawyer" and "Exclusive: Man wanted over "torrent of abuse" on train is Linklaters lawyer" identified Thomas Longstaff in connection with a police request for information following an alleged incident on a train.

It was not our intention to suggest criminal wrongdoing on behalf of Mr Longstaff and we are happy to make clear that police subsequently found no case to answer. We apologise to Mr Longstaff for any embarrassment caused.
