octopus partner

"STay OUt, I'm ChANGiNg"

A rainmaking partner at the City office of a US firm got his team's annual Christmas party cancelled after he groped a young secretary, a source within the firm has alleged.

RollOnFriday is not naming the firm or the partner, but let's call him 'Handsy', as it has not been possible to contact his alleged victim to obtain her consent to the risk of being 'jigsawed'.

According to the source, Handsy made his unwanted advances at his team's Christmas party, prior to 2020. The middle-aged partner, who is a well-known name in his field, was allegedly drunk and "exceedingly inappropriate" with one of the secretaries in the team. "He was touching and groping her. He ran his hand on her thigh and bum area. He also brushed against her chest area. He also repeatedly tried to dance with her inappropriately. At one point he had her isolated on the sofa and had his arm over her shoulder and his hand rested on her leg and thigh", said the source.

"She was visually upset and uncomfortable", said the source, and in tears by the end of the night. "It was clear she was trying to get away from the situation but he wouldn’t stop".

The alleged sofa-groping was witnessed by a number of people, while more staff witnessed the partner's roving hands on the dance floor. Handsy made a similar attempt on another of the secretaries, but she was "more successful in ridding herself of him" and managed to leave the event early, said the source.

His first alleged victim was "very upset" and eventually moved to another team, said the insider, while Handsy's behaviour back in the office was described as "very shady": associates who spoke openly about the incident were "rebuked", and he allegedly used colleagues to put pressure on the distressed PA to retract her story.

The only tangible fallout for Handsy was that his team was stripped of the right to have a Christmas party, according to the source. "There were Christmas events organised the following years but they were very different", they said. Meanwhile, the groping bug was passed on.

@22.08 - and what were their specific allegations relating to 'roving hands on the dancefloor'?

Anonymous 20 May 21 22:32

@21:23, Unfortunately there will be some trapped cash in the Ned Group for Bollinger. Don’t worry, though - sufficient proceeds can still be upstreamed for Zermatt.

I am enjoying the single repetitive protester. Don't worry - he'll still be there long enough to support your promotion to NSP.

@21.48 -

We don't know who the victim is.

You do realise the more you post, the less people believe this story? This public perception is evident by the multiple downvotes by the same individual. You can comment the same diatribe 100 more times but that doesn’t change the fact that nobody now believes this story. For heaven’s sake it doesn't look like the poor PA even complained.

The fact you think the lack of SRA involvement supports rather than weakens your case is frankly precious.

@21:27 #1, you’ve completely missed the mark man. This debt thread has enough finance specialists to run about 5 separate trees.

@2114, 2127, 2140, 2144 - you do realise you’re trying to jump on the best debt finance sub-thread ROF has ever seen. And yes, the ROF story is true.

Question 20 May 21 23:27

Does anyone think SRA have the resources to look into this? I mean when they could be disciplining junior lawyers instead, why go after a big shot partner with the full resources of a top US law firm behind him?

Anonymous 20 May 21 23:35

20 @1637 - article says ‘City office of a US firm’ - of course not CC or Links.

Anonymous 20 May 21 23:39

To this really annoying person trying to hijack every comment by repeating ‘allegations aren’t true’ in various forms: pop up to searcys to calm yourself and then get back to your SFA.

These female trainees and associates are happy to spend their evenings accquainted with the partners of the firm in question, I would pull up evidence from other articles where roll on friday rates the culture at  firms and gives reponses from trainees/associates which outright confess sexual relations... one even mentioned how the females willingly sleep with the partners... however with all the "me too" movement + equality/diversity facade, the firm in question has a predominantly upper class caucasian intake of female's who are grammar/private educated and attended red bricks although two f associates are from [redacted].. sleeping with powerful men (most of whom would be married) how is this female empowerment when there are so many men abusing their position of power or giving PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT to those female trainees/associates who offer themselves like a piece of meat !!!! how are females meant to be taken seriosuly when other females at this firm ruin it for us and we are just seen as sex objects ...nothing more ??

Spot on, the allegations are true.

Pleasure, glad you agree that the allegations are true.

Anonymous 20 May 21 21:20: glad you agree you have seen the evidence and that the allegations are true.

Anonymous 20 May 21 21:19: glad you agree that the sofa and dancing incidents were separate.

Having read the claims and considered the responses to follow up questions and requests for evidence, the conclusion must be that the allegations aren't true.

We will never know exactly what happened but it looks as if the source (perhaps after a few drinks at the party) saw the partner flirting with a secretary and based allegations on this. Nothing was ever reported to the firm, which explains why the partner is still there and why the SRA wasn't involved (not that anything untoward seems to have happened in any case). There are a number of motives - jealousy of either the partner or the secretary, general disapproval of partners and secretaries having relationships or peopleflirting at Christmasparties, a desire for the partner's job (or for someone else to get it), anti-male sentiment, or just general desire to stir up trouble and the opportunity to make someone unhappy or get someone fired.

The source's memories of the event seem rather hazy, events are embellished and the partner seems at one point to have been accused of dancing appropriately while sitting down. The source must have been following the partner around for the whole evening to have such detailed knowledge of the partners interactions and they appear to have had a close up view of the secretary's anatomy.

We're being asked to believe that the partner committed what the source believed were multiple sexual assaults on different people, that neither the police nor thd SRA were involved, that all HR did was cancel the Christmas party (even this was contradicted in the comments by someone who said that the parties weren't cancelled but the partner was banned). If true, this would be extraordinary. Far more likely that the claims have been exaggerated. These conclusions could of course be completely wrong, but they seem the most likely version of events. The source laid out a series of allegations and there has been ample opportunity for these to be supported by others with more details and support. The comments claiming to support the allegations have done a great deal of harm to the source's cause, consisting almost entirely of people repeating the same thing over and over and shouting and name-calling at anyone looking to establish the truth.

"This debt sub-thread is golden".

Absolutely - a clear demonstration that them writing it don't believe the allegations. Long may it continue.

Anonymous 21 May 21 09:22

@22.50 - I know, hope it keeps going. It just shows how many people think the allegations are untrue.

Anonymous 21 May 21 09:24

@22.51 - the debt finance thread is good as it supports the allegations not being true. And no, the allegations are not true.

@6:54

Strange rambling. Have you just wrapped up an overnight work sesh running through comments? Grab yourself a coffee from Notes, relax and then back to the docs.

The early hours that this single repetitive poster is commenting tells you all you need to know about what he does for work. Everyone makes NSP, no need to take a break from work to defend your saviour at 4am.

Anonymous 21 May 21 10:19

@10.09 - agreed, the person making unsubstantiated allegations at 4.36, 4.38 and 4.40 am is repetitive. Not sure they're a 'he' though.

They seem to think that the partner is capable of simultaneously groping someone and dancing inappropriately while seated on a sofa.
