Staff at K&L Gates will be given paid time off to volunteer at the London 2012 Olympics.

The US firm has told its London staff that they can join 70,000 other 'games makers' directing traffic and tourists around Stratford during the Olympics, the Lawyer reports. Other potential tasks - according to the 2012 website - include photocopying which should at least take advantage of the K&L trainees' skills.

It's a big commitment from the firm as volunteers have to give up ten days of their time (plus another three days of training) during the games. So the firm's shiny new offices (as they will be by 2012) may seem somewhat deserted. But sadly no one at K&L Gates was available to comment, so it remains unclear how it will handle all its staff deciding to bunk off for almost two weeks at the same time.

Other RollOnFriday readers who are interested in volunteering at the Olympics (you get to keep the uniform) should click here and answer a series of questions which will confirm whether you are suitable for the role. These include "will you still tingle with excitement at being a Games Maker even if you’re tired, wet, it’s raining and the events have finished?" The correct answer is "yes" RollOnFriday scientists advise.

Applications open to the public on 15 September.
