Lander & Rogers lawyer Gavin Hollamby won Sydney's Golden Gavel competition last Friday, by delivering a speech on the topic "Why my firm should conduct its own reality TV show".

The Golden Gavel competition is an annual event hosted by NSW Law Society Young Lawyers. Participants are given a topic and 24 hours to prepare a speech, before battling it out in front of 400 of their colleagues. The winner goes on to represent NSW at a national competition in October.

This year's event was adjudicated by Supreme Court Justice Patricia Bergen who, according to the Landers & Rodgers website "was won over by Gavin's content and timing, together with what she called the "richtometre" of audience response." RollOnFriday isn't sure what that means either.

Reality TV was a salient topic for Hollamby, given that his Landers colleague Peter Kritikides is one of 15 remaining competitors in Channel 10's hit reality TV show MasterChef. He survived a pressure test elimination this week, but didn't escape a Firmspy investigation into Lander & Rogers sanctioned public chest waxing rituals.

In this self publishing era one might argue that like it or not, Landers & Rogers is already unwittingly conducting its own reality TV show. Wax on, wax off.
