Gilbert + Tobin is now on the ground in Perth, courtesy of an alliance with local firm Blakiston & Crabb.

G+T burst onto the scene in the late 80s, and came to prominence on the back of the early 90s dot.com boom. When that bubble burst the firm deftly morphed into a specialist corporate firm, before widening its services to general legal earlier this decade. While it's had national and international clients galore for ages, it only had a presence in Sydney until earlier this year, when it expanded into Melbourne. And this new alliance with Blakiston & Crabb looks like the next step towards a national footprint.

Michael Blakiston, founding partner of Blakiston & Crabb, was pretty upbeat about the synergies between the two firms. Pointing out the "similar cultures" enjoyed by the two firms, he banged on about "a genuine excitement about what the alliance can achieve" and the firms being "alive to what today's clients require from their legal advisors".

According to G+T Managing Partner Danny Gilbert, it's all about resources work. The alliance “recognises the importance of the energy and resources industries to Australia and its economy and the increasing demand for high quality legal services in those sectors. Our firms will work together to undertake market-leading work in these sectors.”
