I've read the book, but it was ages ago. Have seen the Minghella film many times, and also the Alain Delon film, both of which I like a lot. Have binged the Netflix version a bit today and love it, the black and white really works, and Marge is much smarter from the off and more enigmatic than the Paltrow version. Not sure about the casting for Freddie Miles, but have just seen the character once so far.
I only saw the bit that was on Gogglebox. Isn't the lead a bit too old and too creepy-looking (yes, I know he was the hot priest) to pull off the character?
Watched first two episodes- so pretentious it almost comes across as one of those French & Saunders parodies Why would you make a tv series in the 2020s of a story set in the 1960s in early 1950s film noir style? And having a middle aged actor play Ripley makes the whole thing even more unbelievable. Scott plays Ripley without charm with maximum creep. He gives no indication why anyone would have ever fallen for his confidence tricks in the first place. Matt Damon was better in the role

Tbh I think I’ve lost interest. The BnW is good for pace and I love the locations, the way they’re treated, but it palls as a tale over too many eps.

Bump. Managed to make it halfway through first episode but then got distracted by some paint drying. Slow, detached, monotonous.

Now now, Andrew Scott is an amazingly versatile actor with incredible range. I barely recognised him.
