69 Colebrooke Row is also confusingly known as the bar with no name. It elicits a little mystique before you step foot inside this wonderful corner bar which has more than a passing resemblance to a New York speakeasy of yesteryear.

There may be a Prohibition feel to the ambience but, thankfully, that doesn't put the stoppers on the drinks flowing freely. The bar is the most recent project of Tony Conigliaro, which only opened earlier this year, but is already winning awards for both the bar and big man himself; the bar scooped a recent Best Newcomer Award, an Observer Best Bar award and a Class magazine award too.

For such a decorated establishment you should expect quality from the beverages and they do not disappoint. A list of a dozen seasonal cocktails is expertly pitched; from foams to fizz and sweet to sour, everyone is well catered for and at 8 quid a pop it is very reasonable for the standard of the tipple.

Using some experimental techniques in his cocktail making has led Conigliaro to be referred to as the Heston of drinking. On our recent visit we saw no evidence of the lab coat, but they certainly seem to have the chemistry right at 69 Colebrooke Row so get yourselves over to Islington ASAP - just don't tell anyone.
