Bermondsey Street is wonderful little thoroughfare south of the river and within spitting distance of London Bridge. It's now home to a plethora of quirky bars, dining hotspots and chic cafés. There's also a disproportionate glut of hairdressers on this street, the sort who would call themselves stylists rather than barbers. All in all, a cool corner of town.

It is at the southern end of this street where you'll find Village East; a drinking and eating highlight amongst the throng of competition sharing the same post code.

The RoF Christmas Party was an excuse for everyone to wear their best threads

Full of beautiful people, no doubt just having had their barnets playfully tussled by a local 'stylist', Village East is a great spot for a beverage. The surly looking, but surprisingly friendly, bar staff will knock you up a cocktail from their exhaustive list. Even if your favourite thirst quencher isn't on there they will happily take requests.

The bar does get busy so if planning to visit in a group it may be wise to book in advance. There are some cosy spots in the nicely appointed bar with curtains providing some privacy if the mood takes you.

When we descended on the bar we also saw there was a busy, buzzy restaurant in the rear, which merits closer inspection if the fare passing by and the lack of empty tables are anything to go on.

Village East is reason to head to Bermondsey Street alone, but even if you're there to get your quiff quaffed, check them out.
