The Law Society's Head of Communications has resigned in the first high profile exit from the organisation since its leadership was humiliated by a vote of no confidence.
Graham Capper took on the role of managing the Society's PR in 2011, but has left after just two years. During his tenure the Law Society, which represents solicitors in England and Wales, has been given a massive shoeing by its own members for failing to fight the government on legal aid cuts. At Christmas the spat became a very public embarrassment when members called for a vote of no confidence in Chief Executive Des Hudson's leadership. And won. The vote's organiser, criminal solicitor James Parry, said that the “moral thing to do would be to resign”. But so far Hudson has refused to budge.

A messenger yesterday |
Capper, having suffered the PR equivalent of a waking nightmare during a shitstorm while drowning, refuted the suggestion that he'd been made a scapegoat for Hudson's backfiring tactics. He told RollOnFriday he had "no intention of staying this long" and he felt "lucky" to have worked with Hudson and his team.
The Law Society declined to comment.
