Hundreds of lawyers have already completed the Aussie Firm of the Year Survey to rate or slate their firm’s pay, prospects, biscuits and loos. Here’s the story so far.

Lawyers at Maddocks seem pretty pleased. Insiders rate the people, who are “fantastic  - very welcoming, friendly and good for a laugh” and also rate the career development at the firm. The bogs, however, “need a makeover”. The prospects at Mills Oakley also look good: “there are genuine partnership prospects for lawyers here”.

Gilbert & Tobin is also faring well: "The partners are approachable, the pay is great, the deals are top notch and there is no snobbery,"  though the hours can be "challenging". And high praise for Lavan Legal. One insider comments "we are a team" and while other firms are freezing pay, "the prospects for pay rises and promotions look awesome". It's even a place where the "partners walk around in underwear" to collect money for charity - as one lawyer puts it ridiculing themselves shamelessly providing "great free entertainment". Meanwhile, there's a different picture at the newly formed KWM SJ Berwin as one lawyer comments it "feels like a sinking ship - partners jumping every week".

  "It's for charity"

And to the things that really matter: biscuits. Results show there’s a huge disparity between the firms. Gadens seem to be depriving its staff of biccies, “I would kill for biscuits to be available some times”. Meanwhile, Mills Oakley have taken its biscuit precedent to a whole new level “when the temperature outside reaches 40 degrees C, the admin team brings around ice creams for everybody. Yum yum...” And no cream, fat or sugar for staff at Lavan Legal who “get fruit and nuts to snack on” and have a full time Health and Wellness Coordinator to keep an eye on their waist lines and general health.

If you haven't already, submit your verdict here and stay tuned for the full results which will be announced in the new year.
